Tioman
Island, or more fondly known by the locals as Pulau
Tioman is a small island located in the state of
Pahang in Peninsular Malaysia. It is one
of the top tourist destinations in the region. It
is 32
nautical miles off the town of Mersing in North-East
direction towards South china Sea. The size of the island of Tioman is
108.26 km˛ about 1/10 the size of the island of
Penang and about 1/4 the size of the island of Langkawi.
How tourists can reach the villages
in Pulau Tioman
1.
If you plan to come by land, you have to come to the Mersing
Jetty in the state of Johor or Endau (Tg. Gemuk) Jetty in the
state of Pahang.
Once you reach any of the jetties, you
can purchase your ferry return tickets. Ferries here make
about 2 return trips per day - one in the morning and another in
the afternoon. However, if you miss the ferry you would have to
stay in one of the budget hotels in Mersing or in Endau for the
next trip to Tioman.
The ferry will stop at Genting
Village first and then proceed to stop at Paya Village where
tourists will disembarked. If you fail to disembark, you
will have to stop at Tekek Village and take a water taxi back to
Paya village.
2. If you plan to come by plane, you have
to take your flight from Skypark Subang Terminal (Sultan Abdul Aziz
Shah Airport) in Subang, Selangor
or from Seletar Airport in Singapore. The flight is Berjaya
Air and the plane will land at Tekek Village as there is a small
airport. There tourists will have to take a water taxi to
Paya village. It is about 10 minutes journey.
